The Role Of The Educator

At Connections Early Learning Childcare Centre, our educators are more than caregivers—they are co-learners, co-researchers, and co-creators of meaningful learning experiences. We believe educators play a central role in fostering environments that support emotional well-being, resilience, and connection.

Reflective, Responsive, and Relationship-Focused

Educators at Connections are encouraged to reflect on their teaching approaches, interactions, and image of the child. By observing and documenting children’s experiences through Learning Stories, they capture moments of growth and tailor learning to each child’s interests and strengths. Educators receive dedicated time weekly for programming and meaningful documentation.

A Holistic, Blended Approach

Our program blends the Alberta Flight Framework, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori approaches to support children’s development across all domains. We believe the environment is the third teacher, and our thoughtfully designed spaces provoke curiosity, exploration, and self-directed learning. Materials are always accessible, and children are invited—not pressured—to engage at their own pace.

Guidance Rooted in Emotional Intelligence

We promote emotional regulation, empathy, and healthy relationships through consistent routines and positive guidance. Educators set clear, compassionate limits that support self-regulation and help children feel safe and confident. In moments of challenge, educators model calm, respectful responses and offer children the tools to manage their emotions.

Building Connection in a Changing World

We believe relationships can overcome barriers of time, space, and background. Our educators build authentic connections with every child and family—getting to know their stories, cultures, and strengths. We guide children to understand themselves and others, laying the foundation for lifelong confidence, compassion, and connection.

Educator Responsibilities

Educators at Connections ELCC are expected to:

  • Respect each child as a whole, capable individual

  • Engage in meaningful, child-led play and conversation

  • Acknowledge and support children’s emotions

  • Create inclusive environments where all children feel seen and valued

  • Support emotional regulation and model empathy

  • Collaborate with families and community partners to ensure every child thrives

Professional Excellence & Development

We are proud to have a team of passionate, qualified Early Childhood Educators. All educators at Connections are required to hold a Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education. Level 2 educators must commit to completing Level 3 within 18 months of employment.

We invest in our team with:

  • Ongoing professional development (including two annual PD days and self-paced modules)

  • Opportunities for voice and leadership, encouraging open dialogue with directors

  • Training through ARCQE’s Reaching In… Reaching Out to build personal and professional resiliency

  • Workshops with PACEkids and other partners to support inclusive practice

Inclusive Advocacy for Every Child

Connections ELCC partners with trusted organizations such as Renfrew, GRIT, PREP, The LEAD Foundation, and Step by Step Early Intervention to support children with diverse developmental needs. Educators are responsible for ongoing observation, assessments, and advocacy to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive.

At Connections, we see all children as resilient, capable, curious, and full of potential—and our educators are the heart of helping them reach it.
