Suman Takhar is the heart behind Connections ELCC—a passionate educator, advocate, and leader committed to transforming early childhood education. Born and raised in Ontario, Suman began her career as a Social Worker, where she saw firsthand how early experiences and high-quality care shape a child’s future. These experiences sparked a deep interest in early brain development and emotional wellbeing, leading her into the field of Early Childhood Education in 2015.

Since then, Suman has devoted her life’s work to creating environments where children feel safe, seen, supported, and deeply valued. Her vision is rooted in the belief that every child is resilient, capable, curious, and full of potential—and that early education should empower them to grow with confidence and compassion.

Suman founded Connections Early Learning Childcare Centre in Calgary to create a nurturing, inclusive space where children from all backgrounds could access meaningful, high-quality early learning. Her approach emphasizes connection over conformity, focusing on relationships, emotional intelligence, and personalized learning rather than a one-size-fits-all model.

She draws inspiration from a variety of educational philosophies—including Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Emergent Curriculum—while remaining grounded in the values of empathy, mindfulness, and community. Suman also deeply aligns with the ELECT (Early Learning for Every Child Today) framework, which reinforces her belief that children learn best through responsive relationships and experiences that honour their individuality.

At the heart of her work is a commitment to:

• Encouraging mindfulness and emotional regulation through daily breathing, yoga, and grounding practices

• Creating meaningful relationships between children, educators, and families

• Personalizing learning experiences to support each child’s strengths, interests, and needs

Suman leads with heart, humility, and a vision for social impact. Her goal is not only to provide exceptional early childhood education but to redefine what quality childcare looks like—by building a model of care that is relational, inclusive, and deeply human. Her advocacy continues to uplift families across Calgary as she works to change the face of childcare and help every child rise with confidence, love, and connection.
