Our classrooms are intentionally organized, with carefully selected materials that encourage creativity, imagination, and open-ended exploration. Rather than being told exactly how to play, children are given opportunities to think, create, and discover for themselves.

A simple basket of natural materials can inspire far more imagination than a toy that only has one purpose.

When children are surrounded by beauty, order, and intention, they naturally become more engaged and respectful of their environment.

Bringing Nature Indoors

One of our core values at Connections is Respect for Mother Nature, and you’ll see that reflected throughout our centre.

Natural light, plants, wood elements, nature-inspired materials, and outdoor experiences help create a peaceful atmosphere that encourages children to slow down and connect with the world around them.

Our garden allows children to dig in the soil, care for herbs, and experience the joy of watching something grow. Our covered outdoor playground—the first approved covered outdoor play space in Alberta—allows children to enjoy fresh air and outdoor learning throughout the year, no matter the weather.

Nature has a remarkable way of helping children feel grounded, calm, and connected.

Spaces That Support Independence

Children are incredibly capable when given the opportunity.

Our classrooms are designed with children in mind. Materials are accessible, learning spaces are thoughtfully arranged, and children are encouraged to make choices, solve problems, and take ownership of their environment.

Whether it’s selecting an activity, helping care for classroom materials, watering plants, or tidying up after play, children develop confidence and responsibility through everyday experiences.
